The Department of Labor (DOL) started an ambitious program designed to evaluate the current state and recommend improvements to the DOL IT environment. A new office, the Enterprise Service Office (ESO) was created and chartered with the delivery of the UDTI program initiatives. To help implement these initiatives, DOL turned to the same company who had helped them identify the original areas of improvement: NetStar-1. As the original prime, we supported the ESO to successfully start up the office. Our experts designed, built, and consolidated nine diverse DOL networks into one consolidated DOL Network (DOLNet). The ESO has successfully integrated the first six agencies into the consolidated DOLNet and continues to consolidate the additional three agencies. Our efforts helped consolidate 1,500 sites distributed sites into approximately 600 sites ranging from highly redundant critical sites to small office sites. As part of the Enterprise-Wide initiatives, NetStar-1 developed a new model of service delivery based on the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) methodology and best practices baseline. The ESO contract was re-competed in March of 2007. In keeping with DOL’s small business goals, the contract was awarded to Knight Point Systems, a Service Disabled Veteran Owned as the prime contractor with NetStar-1 as the subcontractor. NetStar-1 personnel continue to be the backbone of the group providing all of the senior lead personnel including: chief architect, service delivery and project management.
NetStar-1 has provided support to the DOL for the past 6 years. In September 2005, NetStar-1 was awarded its own 5-year contract for the full scope of support services required within the DOL environment. We worked with DOL to analyze personnel, roles, and responsibilities and have been a flexible partner in the evolution of the DOL Information Technology Center (ITC) environment. NetStar-1 provides nationwide integrated enterprise Information Technology (IT) services to support the DOL ITC vision, and supports and enhances its mission and service delivery. Our experts provide network services, server and system services, virtualization, continuity of operations and disaster recovery services, and program and SLA management for the DOL ITC environment, which consists of a National WAN directly servicing 15 major sites, with more than 4,000 users with 5,000 desktop and laptop computers. Following a performance based contract methodology, NetStar-1 provides the onsite personnel with proven experience managing Information Systems within an enterprise environment, as well as system administration, system design, configuration management, and change management.
